A Special THANK YOU to The Town of Hempstead and Nassau Community College for helping support our Fall Festival. Town Supervisor Don Clavin, and NCC President Jermaine Williams committed themselves to another festival in 2022! Mark your calendars now for a bigger and better Fall Festival at the Plains October 1, 2022!
THANK YOU To all of our friends who joined us for an Evening on the Plains!
Friday June 25th, the Friends of Hempstead Plains held a fundraiser at the beautiful Long Island prairie. It was a wonderful evening of outdoor socialization with our supporters and friends. The smooth sounds of the jazz band Santosha filled the evening until sunset. County Exectutive @countyexecutivecurran shared her thoughts about the importance of this unique LI habitat. FHP President Nina Shah-Giannaris spoke about our restoration work, in this, our 20th Year of stewardship. Sweetbriar Nature Center staff brought a Kestrel and Great-Horned Owl.
A big thank you to all who attended, and our board for their ongoing work and support.

Past Backyard Habitat Program - Family Friendly - Was Held Thursday July 25th, 2019 10am - Noon
We came together for a wonderful adventure in the Hempstead Plains grassland. Guests toured the rare prairie habitat and learned about the creatures that live there, from meadow voles to peregrine falcons and monarch butterflies. They learned how to attract birds and pollinators to their own yard and made their own insect nesting box.
